World's Largest Driving Lesson - Gold Coast
The Gold Coast turned on the sun for the first World's Largest Driving Lesson at 8am on Wednesday, 28th April.
In the company of the Queensland Police and the Isuzu D-Max ute, 18 learner drivers and their instructors completed a 30 minute driving lesson in the Warner Bros. Movie World car park at Oxenford.
At the same time in cities across Australia - Townsville, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide - learner drivers were following the same lesson plan.
About 185 students and instructors took part nationally.
The students practiced smooth steering and driving technique, safe following distances, cornering, reversing and parking.
Driving schools represented on the Gold Coast were Anchor, Bob Johnson, Gold Coast School of Motoring, Maclean Pines, Precise and Rightway.
The World's Largest Driving Lesson is the launch event for Fatality Free Friday 2010, Australia's only community-based national road safety event.
Fatality Free Friday encourages all road users to take the pledge for road safety to make the final Friday in May fatality free on Australia's roads. By promoting sensible and aware road use on that day we aim to reinforce good habits and a positive attitude that will continue each and every day.
